Privacy Policy
Last updated:
CitizenPro is an independent study tool for the Canadian citizenship test. This policy explains what information is involved when you use it. In short: you don't need an account, your study progress is stored only in your own browser, and we use Google Analytics and Vercel's analytics tools to understand how visitors use the site and how fast it loads, so we can make it more useful and reach more people.
Information stored on your device
To remember your progress, CitizenPro saves information in your browser's local storage on the device you are using. This includes:
- your quiz answers, scores and review schedule
- readiness estimates and progress shown on My Journey
- Learning Hub articles you saved and pages you opened recently
- your answers in the Smart Guide, including study-preference and personality-style questions, and any notes or reflections you type
This information stays on your device. It is not sent to us, and we cannot see it. It is not synced between browsers or devices.
Information processed when you visit
Our website is hosted by Vercel Inc. To deliver pages and keep the service secure and reliable, the hosting provider processes standard technical information about each request, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time of the request. This information may be kept in server logs for a limited time and may be processed outside Canada, including in the United States. We do not use it to identify you or to build a profile about you.
Cookies, analytics and advertising
We use Google Analytics, a service provided by Google, to understand how visitors use CitizenPro. It records which pages are visited, how visitors arrived (for example from a search engine or a shared link), how long visits last, whether pages are scrolled to the end, clicks on links to other websites, the type of device and browser, the browser's language setting, and approximate location (such as country or city). We look at this information only in aggregate, to improve the site.
We also record a few study milestones, without any results: when a topic quiz, the practice test or the Smart Guide is started, resumed or finished (with the name of the quiz topic), when you switch the site's language, when you save a Learning Hub article or add a review reminder to your calendar, and when a page can't be found or an error occurs (the type of error only).
Your answers, scores, readiness estimates, Smart Guide answers, notes and anything you type into a search box are not sent to Google Analytics. We also remove question and attempt identifiers from page addresses before they are sent.
Google Analytics uses first-party cookies (named _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID) to tell visits apart and recognize returning visitors. Google may process this information outside Canada, including in the United States.
We also use two Vercel tools that do not use cookies: Vercel Web Analytics, which counts visits and page views, and Vercel Speed Insights, which measures how quickly pages load and respond for real visitors. They record the page address (without the part after a question mark), where the visit came from, the type of device, operating system, browser and network connection, and the country. To count unique visitors without cookies, Vercel uses a temporary identifier that is reset every day.
You can block or delete Google Analytics cookies in your browser settings, or install Google's opt-out add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. Content blockers also stop these tools. CitizenPro works the same either way.
CitizenPro does not show advertising, and we have not connected Google Analytics to any advertising product.
Sharing and selling
We do not sell or rent personal information. We share information only with the service providers described above: Vercel, to host the website and measure visits and page speed, and Google, for analytics.
Deleting your information
You can delete everything CitizenPro has stored at any time by clearing this website's data in your browser settings (often called site data, cookies and site data, or local storage). If you use a private or incognito window, the data is deleted when you close it.
Please don't share sensitive information
Free-text fields such as notes and reflections are stored on your device, but anyone who uses your device or browser could see them. Please don't enter sensitive details such as application numbers, ID numbers, addresses or health information.
Children
CitizenPro is intended for adults preparing for the Canadian citizenship test. It is not directed at children under 13.
